In Touch – Dec 2010

Remember the Member

This is the first of a regular update you will be receiving to keep you in the loop with what your International Director has been doing in his bid to “Remember the Member”.

Whilst I must apologise for the delay in getting in touch, my only excuse is that there has been so much to learn, as a “new kid on the block” so to speak, that time has just got away. Having said that I promise it won’t happen again.

Choosing a Region Advisor

Since the International Convention in Palm Springs in August, your Board has been involved with interviewing next year’s applicants for Region Adviser, the results of which will be announced after the February Board meeting in Portland, Oregon. The successful candidates will take up their new posts in March 2011.

The survey for International Officers, 2nd Vice, SeniorVice-President and President-Elect has been sent to Districts and the results will be available in February. International Director candidates will be surveyed shortly and those results will be announced later. This Toastmaster year, delegates will be electing Directors for odd numbered Regions. These elections will take place at the International Convention in Las Vegas in August 2011. Hope to see many of you there; the Convention has to be experienced to be believed!

Toastmasters Rebranding

During the past three months the board has been working on “re-branding” and the culmination of their efforts will be released in Las Vegas next year. Also occupying the Board has been the preparation for the first Mid Year Training for the District trios which will take place in January and February. Regions 12, 13 & 14 leadership teams will meet in Kuala Lumpur in mid January for their training, and we are fortunate to have Dan Rex from World Head Quarters to assist in the training. More on this event next month.

Board Discussions

There have been other issues which have been brought to the Board’s attention over the past month. The Contest Rule book revision, which was quickly addressed; the distressing twin disasters in New Zealand with the Christchurch earth quake and the mining disaster. I am sure every member in Region 12 extends their sympathy to those directly affected and to all the members of District 72 in these testing times.

New District in Region 12

Region 12 will welcome a new District into its midst next year. At the District 73 Annual Conference in Perth next May, a new District will come into being. District 73 will re-align, with clubs in Western Australia forming one district and those in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania forming another. I am sure we all congratulate the current District 73 members on the growth they have achieved to make the new District a reality.

Communications Functional Soon

With regard to the Region Newsletter and Website, we hope to have both these Communication tools functional shortly. I am indebted to Sue Haynes our current Region Adviser and to Joycelyn Brent, a stalwart of District 69, for their efforts in getting these under way. Remember they will only be successful if everyone contributes, so please ensure that they reflect our members’ experiences and views by being a part of them both.

In closing I wish you all the very best for the festive season and the coming New Year. Strive to be the best Toastmaster you can be and I promise to always “Remember the Member”.
